CSF is blocking access to RHN

Post by jols »

Hi,

I can not update anything having to do with access to the Redhat network with CSF running. I have two switch off CSF just to update PHP, etc.

The following command at shell times out after several minutes with CSF running:

time yum list updates

The output eventually reads:

There was an error communicating with RHN.
RHN Satellite or RHN Classic support will be disabled.
Unable to connect to the host and port specified

real 8m42.200s
user 0m0.170s
sys 0m0.049s

This is beginning to lead to some serious issues here and there, something about RHN repositories on the server being only partially complete, etc. causing Apache updates to fail, etc.

Any idea, how I can get around this issue, we have our servers at SoftLayer. Do you happen to know what ports, or port ranges we should open? Regretfully, no one at Softlayer seems to understand this issue.

By the way, I have tried taking out all of the CC_DENY blocks, and clearing the deny file of all blocked IPs, etc. CSF only takes 15 seconds or so, to restart, but still this issue continues.

Thanks very much.

I found the answer. It was a matter of putting the local network IP range the CSF allow file.
